Bathroom inspiration

Friday, 23 January 2015

I've just gone through the process of selecting our tapware and bathroom fixtures. It's been a bit of a process...I find it such a big responsibility as they're not really things you can change easily if you're not happy with the outcome. I wanted the style of house to be quite traditional, whereas Ben leans toward a more modern aesthetic. I thought these lovely basin and stands were a great melding of our styles and well suited to a period home.

Planning, planning and more planning

We only had a 30 day settlement on our house but we spent the entire time drawing plans and researching - lots of Pinterest action to say the least. We both had a lot of ideas on what we'd do with the next place but until we actually bought and had an existing floorpan to work with, we could only take our ideas so far. We said this time around that Benny (my partner) will focus on the building aspects, and me on the interior but we end up talking a lot of things through as it's so good to get a second opinion.

We have a month left in our rental, so we're tackling the front yard and first two bedrooms with an extension out the back later in the year. Here are a couple of houses that I'm getting a lot of inspiration from.

Our new home

It's been a loooong time since I updated my blog and during the time lapse we finished our reno, sold the house, bought another, and have begun renovating! Yes the last 2 years have been very um, fast paced.

Here's a few before shots of our pretty little house. I promise to keep you updated this time!!

Inspiration: black marble

Tuesday, 11 February 2014

Ever since I saw black marble in the bathroom of a restaurant we ate at recently I haven't stopped thinking about it! They'd used a combination of large rectangle tiles and small hexagons and it gave the space such a luxurious feel. I 'm loving it combined with the brass fixtures in these reference images.

A slight obsession with bedlinen has been passed down from my Mum so when I came across this Bolivian made organic cotton bedding, I had to have it. Aiayu has the most amazing ranges of clothing, throws, cushions and sheets all ethically made in Bolivia. The cotton sheets are so incredibly soft and a nice change from linen. I'm loving their beautifully simple styling too.

Christmas crafting

Saturday, 21 December 2013

I love making things for family and friends around Christmas time. Last year I did sugar free chocolate and nut truffles but decided to give people the real deal this year and made rocky road. I used cute little treat bags from Robert Gordon and kikki.K and and made a personalised tag for everyone. Merry Christmas!

Just another little something to feed my obsession with brass and copper. 'Brick' is a traditional flip clock designed by Erwin Termaat for LEFF. Available from Leibal.
